A dream come true.
I could not hide my excitement today as we started our Association first general meeting. The meeting which was scheduled to commence at 10.00AM actually started at 11.00AM due to the late arrival of my dedicated pioneer members who had to make numerous calls before they could find the venue for the meeting.
Composition of Members
12 members were present for the first general meeting, Mr Frank Danchie came from Kintampo for this meeting, another pig farmer also came from Suhum. Two Aspiring Pig farmers Came from Ho and Hohoi in the Volta Region. A parent represented his son from the Central region. I was highly impressed with the pedigree of pig and aspiring pig farmers that showed up for the meeting. Financial Accountant, Project Managers, Electrical Engineers, Event organizers. With this calibre of people showing up, I believe the association would go places. Lest I forget, do you remember Auntie Julie the Pig Marfia, her grandson was also there.
Proceedings at the meeting
Mr Mensah introduced himself and gave chronological events that led to the formation of the association. He informed members he wanted to ensure that the pig industry in Ghana was protected, ensure the availability of market for the pigs and also promote the production of pigs in Ghana
All the other members also introduced themselves. And from what I heard, majority were graduates and well to do.
To direct the activities of the association, interim Executives were elected. They are;
Mr. Mensah Akyeampong President
Mr. Frank Danchie Secretary
Mrs. Opoku Afriyie Treasurer
Mrs. Valerie Danchie Organizer
Miss Afia Poku Welfare
The constitution committee was also formed. Comprising it were Mr. Mensah Akyeampong, Mr. Frank Danchie, Mrs. Afriyie and Mr. Linux. Drafted constitution would be presented to all members for review and approval during the next meeting.
Next General Meeting
The next general meeting is scheduled for the 6th of December, 2013. It will be on farmers day. We would meet to review the constitution and plan our activities for the coming year. Members decided to have a party on that day. So there would be a pig barbecue on that day. And for the pig farmers who do not eat pork themselves, goat meat would be provided.
I want to use this opportunity to thank all those who made it to the first general meeting. I would forever be grateful to you. Creating time out of your tight schedule to honor this meeting means so much to me.
Thank you for coming.
